Seborrheic Keratosis
Common Benign Skin Lesion
Service Description
A seborrheic keratosis is a common noncancerous (benign) skin growth. People tend to get more of them as they get older. They are harmless and not contagious, but typically don’t go away on their own. They appear gradually, usually on the face, neck, chest or back and are usually brown or black. The lesions look waxy or scaly and slightly raised. Whilst removal is not clinically necessary, you may decide to have them removed if they become irritated by clothing, bleed, or you feel they look unsightly. Treatment methods vary, depending on the size of the lesion. Some techniques used in the clinic are - Shave excision: this involves literally shaving lumps and bumps off flush to the skin surface Curettage: scraping away lesions Excision with stitches Cauterising: using heat to destroy tissue via a electrical current Cryotherapy: using liquid nitrogen to freeze the lesion A local anaesthetic can be used to numb the area before the growth is removed. * All treatment times quoted are approximate SAME DAY CONSULTATION & TREATMENT Prices for minor procedures include same-day consultation worth £55 on the first visit only if a same-day procedure has been offered. Please note that if the procedure is not carried out, the consultation fee of £55 applies. It is not necessary to book an additional consultation appointment. All prices quoted are per session, not per lesion. Number of lesions treated per session varies dependent on size. The precise method of removal varies, depending on physical examination. This will be discussed at your appointment. Lesions will only be removed following assessment and if safe to do so. Some lesions may require a histology examination which may incur an additional charge.
